The Red Box
A Chinese/French fusion. I didn’t know much about the restaurant, before we got there. I took me completely by surprise….in a good way. They served us a few appetizers before we got to see the menu. Smart move. Then we got a taste of what was coming. They have this 15 course tasting menu, which is served in 5 servings. This means 5 glasses of wine, if you go for the wine pairing as well. Not 15 glasses :-)
It was a really freaky experience. What a crazy idea to fuse to kitchens with very little comparison. But it actually worked. They somehow managed to make frog legs with a Chinese twist. Everything was thought of, nothing was served by chance. Fresh and tasteful ingredients, served in an innovative fashion.
My prejudices were proved wrong, that’s for sure. I thought Chinese food was chewy squid rings fried in the wishing well, or something of unknown origin served with fried rice. It was so fresh and tasty. Although the waiters were in jeans and not afraid of cracking jokes, they were professional and very attentive.
You can get lamb, entrecote and lobster in this restaurant, but do yourself a favor and order the 15 course menu. It’s an experience.
The prices are fair, and the 1A bus has a stop right outside the door.
